I have been trying to reinforce effort more in my class. This is something that I have never thought about before, but it makes total sense. They typically will recieve their reinforcement verbally. Sometimes they earn Marshall bucks or Baker bucks (PBS rewards). I now see that I should be reinforcing their effort so that they will try new and challenging things on their own. I have quite a few students who will not attempt challenges on their own. They often ask for help or wait for the answer to be given. Now that I am working on reinforcing effort, I am starting to see changes in their attempts at work that is challenging. They are attempting things now and taking a chance. My only concern is when they make a mistake. I am having a hard time finding a proper phrasing to use in these instances. I often stumble over what I am saying. So my only question is 'what should I say when they are wrong or make a mistake?'

I thought about allowing my students to use achivement.org, but then saw it might be hard for them to use. I am trying to plan a black history month project for them to complete. I will have to play with it a bit more to see. I love the magazine cover on Big Huge Labs though. I can see us using this for book reports. I will definately be looking at it more closely. I really enjoyed reading about Colin Powell. ==
